When you live and work in London, even if you're visiting for the day, it can feel like your world is turned upside down when the underground services come to a screeching halt.
Whether it's a tube strike, a fault, line maintenance, or even an unfortunate incident involving wet cement, there are more than a few reasons why London's #1 transport system might hit a red light. The recent strikes are an all-too-painful reminder of what happens when much of the system is out of action, leading to chaos at stations and platforms all over the city.
In today's web-savvy age, it seems there's an acronym for everything. From SEO and SEM to HTML and PPC, it's challenging enough keeping up with the latest web trends without tackling the lingo too.
And where did UX spring from?
For business owners who aren't particularly tech-savvy, you've probably managed to pick up on a few acronyms by now - particularly important marketing tools like SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and PPC (Pay Per Click). Others, such as UX (User Experience), might not be so immediately obvious.
There's plenty to love about London. The history, the culture, the pizzazz, the shops (oh, the shops!), the museums, the nightlife, and the general clout of having a London address on your business card.
If you're not familiar with the virtual office concept, it's understandable if it all sounds a little... odd. After all, office buildings are bricks and mortar - surely you can't get much more physical than that. So how does an office become virtual?
It's got nothing to do with 3D projections or computerised buildings. Instead, think of a virtual office as the ultimate flexibility, where you only need to use the bricks and mortar when it suits you.
At Landmark Plc, we've called London home for over 13 years.
It all started back in 2000 in The City, and since then our portfolio has grown steadily, with each new venue primed and picked for its location, prestige and personality. Our most recent addition is in Mayfair, at the superb 48 Dover Street, and it's set to be the first of a new West End group of Landmark properties.
So it's fair to say that we're committed to the capital. But why London?
You know what "Plc" stands for. But do you know what it really means?
To us, the 'p' stands for 'people'. At Landmark, everything we do revolves around people. We're a service-orientated company with a dedicated team who work exceptionally hard to deliver everything our clients need, day in, day out.
We believe that happiness and satisfaction is infectious, so we start by investing in the people who make Landmark what it is - our team.
It's December. The shops are packed to the rafters, the fairy lights are on overdrive and every decision is justified as: "Oh go on then, it's Christmas!"
Love it or loathe it, the season of goodwill is here. It's a time of merriment, of family and friends and of good old Christmas spirit. For businesses, that means it's the perfect time to cement client relations and extend a bit of goodwill.
Will Rogers hit the nail squarely on the head when he said: "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression."
Let's face it, if you're working on a lucrative new contract and you've managed to bag a meeting with The Big Cheese, you'd be crackers to invite them to a sub-standard place with microwaved nibbles and a wobbly whiteboard. When you're trying to reflect an air of established professionalism, it doesn't really cut it.
There's so much to love about London. The arts, the underground, the lost stations, the Olympics, the start-up scene, the Royals, the shopping, and the fact that businesses can now have a ".london" website address.
And of course, Boris Johnson.
It goes without saying that Landmark loves London. Over the past 13 years we've created a network of six business hubs in the heart of this very special city and we've been supporting businesses of all sizes, right across the corporate spectrum, ever since.
It seems Santa isn't the only one working hard this Christmas.
One survey suggests that last year, at least one-third of UK 'workationers' logged-in over the festive break to catch up on emails and churn through their to-do list. And with remote connections becoming ever-more accessible, those figures are only set to rise - so expect a sleigh-load more to be logging in and slogging away this Christmas, too.
